Scottish Marine Animal Strandings Scheme

SMASS provides a systematic and coordinated approach to the surveillance of cetacean, basking shark and turtle strandings in  Scotland.

The project aims to collate, analyse and report standings to determine cause of death and determine if any substantial new diseases that could threaten the conservation status of marine megafauna.

If you find a DEAD, stranded marine animal please call 01463 243030 or 07979 245893.

Rescue for LIVE strandings can be called 24 hours a day through: Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline (03000 999 999) or British Divers Marine Life Rescue (01825 765546).

The Clyde Marine Mammal Project  is  interested to hear about any  stranding in the Clyde area and has resources  to assist recovery of stranded animals.  Sorcha Cantwell and Samantha King  attend most strandings around the Clyde, are trustees of CMMP and coordinators for SMASS and BDMLR.
